Liver Cancer
Primary cancer starting in liver cells. The most common is hepatocellular carcinoma.
Liver Cancer Overview
The liver is the largest internal organ. Most primary liver cancers develop in people with chronic liver disease, such as cirrhosis caused by Hepatitis B, C, or excessive alcohol use.
Symptoms (Often Late)
- Unintended weight loss and loss of appetite.
- Pain in the upper right abdomen.
- Jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes).
- Abdominal swelling (ascites) or visible veins on the belly.
- White or chalky stools and dark urine.
- General fatigue and weakness.
Therapeutic Challenges
Treatment is complex and relies heavily on the health of the remaining liver.
Surgical Resection or Transplant
Tumor removal (if liver works well) or liver replacement.
Ablation & Embolization Therapy
Techniques to destroy tumors directly without major surgery.
