Bone Cancer
Cancer originating in bone (primary bone cancer). Includes osteosarcoma & chondrosarcoma.
Bone Cancer Overview
Primary bone cancer is rare. Most common types are osteosarcoma (frequent in teens) and chondrosarcoma (in adults). Most cancers in bones are metastasis from other organs, not primary bone cancer.
Signs in Skeleton
- Pain in the affected bone, which may worsen at night.
- Swelling and tenderness near the pain area.
- Bone fractures occurring with minor injury.
- Fatigue.
- Unintended weight loss.
- Difficulty moving or limping (if affecting leg).
Orthopedic Approach
Treatment depends on type of bone sarcoma, location, and stage.
Limb-Salvage Surgery
Removing tumor and reconstructing bone with grafts or prosthetics, avoiding amputation.
Neoadjuvant & Adjuvant Chemotherapy
Often used before surgery (to shrink tumor) and after (to kill remaining cells).
